I feel for you, Ivy! A huge part of success is finding the right timing - and a big part of that is luck. You have to be in the right place at the right time.

But, one of the most interesting articles I've ever written was about creating our own luck. And you mentioned two things we need to do to create luck: come up with terrific ideas and ACT ON THEM!

Your story reminds me of the quote: "I'm an overnight success...it just took me 25 years to get here."

Thanks for your comment, Ivy, and I look forward to hearing from you again :-)

I had a terrific idea several years ago, but because I was ahead of the curve, I couldn't get cooperation from the people I needed to get my show on the road. Now, there is too much competition in the marketplace. Maybe the trend will go out of fashion and then return...

Interesting -- I didn't know Roddick sold out to L'Oreal.

Maybe for her, the "it's just business" bottom line overrode her beliefs. Or maybe she figured that as long as L'Oreal doesn't test animals for Body Shop products, that's good enough for her!

There's probably another life lesson in here somewhere.... :-)

While I admire Anita's initial success and certainly used to be a loyal consumer of Body Shop products, Ms. Roddick lost my vote of confidence when she chose to sell her gold mine to L'Oreal - a company that continues to engage in animal testing, something that The Body Shop was (and I assume is still) strongly opposed to. The message I got from this business transaction was the bottom line was more important to Anita Roddick than her morals and beliefs. I no longer shop at The Body Shop and instead carefully research and purchase from cosmetic companies who in no way endorse animal testing.
